“The Book of Becoming” is a deeply personal piece that represents a pivotal moment in my artistic journey. It was the second portrait I ever painted after creating one of my mother following her passing. That experience opened something inside me, a connection to painting faces I had once feared.

This artwork speaks to the rare and powerful moments when a book or a moment can completely shift our perspective and help us grow. The open book held in her hands transforms into monarch butterflies, symbols of metamorphosis, resilience, and the beauty of becoming.

The woman’s calm expression, surrounded by glowing butterflies and warm tones, reflects inner peace and personal awakening. The colors transition from light to deep sky blue, echoing clarity, transformation, and emotional release.

This painting is a tribute to growth, to listening to the voices that once encouraged us, and to finding the strength to believe in ourselves even when those voices are no longer here.
